Welcome to a New Year!

We have been getting 'back into the swing of things' our first week back at school after the holidays.
My son cried for 5 days before going back to school last Monday. Hopefully, your son/daughter was not as devastated about going back!
In Math, we have been continuing with multiplication. I have sent home information about Xtra Math to practice speed and recall with basic addition facts. As the students begin to master this concept, the level of difficulty will increase. Please let me know in the agenda if you have any questions.
In Science, we have started Forces. We have recently been focusing on Magnetism.
In Social Studies, we have started our study on Egypt. This is always a fascinating unit as most are very interested in learning about mummification, pharoahs and the pyramids.
In English, we are beginning our Autobiographies. I have shared some stories about my childhood to get their ideas flowing. It is fun sharing our stories about when we were born and some have told me where their name originated.
In French, we are focusing on different sounds and building reading comprehension. The students are starting to respond to their reading in French more consistently. It is wonderful seeing their progress!
This week, we had Constable Rochon come to visit our class to talk about Safety. He covered many specific safety concerns such as Stranger Danger, when to call 911, what kind of information we need to know in an emergency. It was very informative and provided me with important conversations to have with my own children.
We are already approaching the '1/2 way mark' in the school year. It has been enjoyable so far and we still have a lot of experiences to go! It has been a pleasure getting to know your child thus far!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
